Dear Spartan Nation,
It is again that time of year when you receive the North Carolina School Report Card for SSS. We are very excited and hope you take the time to read our report card. There are several areas I would like to highlight, not only to celebrate with you, but to give you some talking points in the community.
Our overall school performance grade went up 8 points and we are now a C school, working hard towards becoming a B school. To get this score, the state uses a formula of 80% proficiency and 20% growth. We increased 12 points in growth and 7 points in proficiency. We had the highest growth in the county, when looking at traditional high schools, and we could not have done it without your support! Thank you!
At the risk of giving too much data (but again, I need you to share the positive things happening to help our community understand that we have amazing students and teachers at SSS), here are some more numbers you can share: ACT Workkeys is up 20 points, English II is up 6 points, Math I is up 2 points, Biology is up 9 points, ACT is up 8 points, the number of students earning credit for Math III is up 9 points, and SSS is the only high school to have positive growth in all three EOC classes.
Academics is not the only area in which we are proud. Look at the Safe, Orderly and Caring Schools section, and you will see that SSS has fewer criminal acts than the district average and less than half as many as the state. Our students and teachers are doing great things, and I want to celebrate them!
Growth, however great today, is not guaranteed tomorrow. We must continually strive to improve with the belief that all students can learn at a high level. Areas of focus continue to be our graduation rate and our growth status. Although we had impressive growth, we were 1.09 below the "Met Growth" standard. Please join me in supporting the efforts of our students, teachers and ultimately our community, as we strive for excellence. I also ask that you join the social media hashtag #SSStrong and encourage our students and teachers by sharing and posting online when you see great things coming out of our local schools. Our students and teachers are worth it and deserve to know we support them!
Thank you, and Spartans, Unite!
